USD 252 Southern Lyon County has an opening for a Full-Time Assistant Maintenance Director at Olpe High School/ Olpe Elementary. 40hrs a week, full benefits. This position will be open until filled.

JOB DESCRIPTION – Assistant Maintenance Director

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office (after employment offer is made).
  3. Valid Kansas Driver’s License.
  4. Ability to understand chemical hazards.
  5. Must be work-oriented and have self-initiative.
  6. Five years experience as a school custodian or the equivalent in custodial service in other institutions or firms.
  7. Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the basic techniques of electrical repair and maintenance, HVAC, carpentry and ground maintenance.
  8. Ability to manually lift a maximum of 60 pounds.
  9. Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.

REPORTS TO:  Maintenance Director and Superintendent

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ability to provide a clean, safe, attractive, and comfortable environment to ensure full and productive use of District facilities.
  2. Ability to coordinate and supervise the activities of the custodial staff.
  3. Ability to promote a caring, helping attitude toward staff, students and patrons and convey that attitude in all that he/she does.
  4. Ability to supervise, motivate and direct employees to develop to fullest potential.
  5. Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with staff, administrations, members of the school district and community.
  6. Ability to react to changes and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, and handle other tasks as assigned.
  7. Ability to operate all equipment and machinery as required.
  8. Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the District.
  9. Ability to regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season, ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity, and maintain mechanical equipment as needed.
  10. Ability to organize and assist in promoting the safety, health and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds.
  11. Ability to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.
  12. Ability to display good judgment and flexibility to change.
  13. Ability to move equipment and material within and between school buildings safely.
  14. Ability to address emergencies when they arise in order to prevent disruption of the schools.
  15. Ability to act as a substitute custodian when necessary.
  16. Ability to assist in ordering, receiving, delivering, and storing all school supplies.
  17. Ability to keep accurate and current inventory of tools, equipment and supplies and provide updated inventory lists to the District Office in January and July each year.
  18. Ability to exercise appropriate judgment and initiative to handle emergency situations as they arise.
  19. Keep current on new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
  20. Ability to observe and follow all District policies at all times.
  21. Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner.
  22. Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential.
  23. Ability to perform preventive maintenance on equipment and facilities.
  24. Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  25. Ability to annually train and in-service custodial/summer employees regarding safety precautions, procedures, and equipment. Ability to maintain annual safety training records.  
  26. Ability to perform other duties and assume other responsibilities assigned by Superintendent.
  27. Ability to perform custodial duties as assigned.
  28. Ability to maintain safe and attractive grounds and facilities.
  29. Ability to handle a fast-paced, intense work environment.
  30. Ability/willingness to work a daily schedule that could demand an extended workday.
  31. Coordinate and supervise the activities of the custodial staff.
  32. Successfully pass CPR Training (every two years) and Defensive Drive Training (every three years; if transporting Students).

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  1. Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials up to 60 lbs.
  2. Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, reaching, climbing and balancing.
  3. Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
  4. Must work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.
  5. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round in a variety of temperatures.

Term of Employment:  12 Month At Will/Contract

Evaluation:  Performance effectiveness evaluated in accordance with Board of Education Policy.
